Favourite Things

1. My sisters birthday presents. This t-shirt is just me and my sister all over,we fully endorse staying at home with your only true friends, cats! I got it from Society 6, where designers and artists put their work and you can buy it on anything you want. The t-shirts are printed on American Apparel t-shirts and are very good quality, the print is great too, I was worried it would be shoddy. However, if you are from the UK you will get customs on it. I also bought pretty pastel pink roses and made her a cake which i will post later in the week along with a tutorial. 

2. My pretty Blythe. She is a Bohemian Beat and I got her years ago for my birthday but she currently lives with my sisters small (17) collection. I know that Blythes freak a lot of people out but I think they are adorable! I love the four different sets of changing eyes and my sisters custom ones are beautiful. However, changing their eye chips is creepy, too many times I have gone into the living room to find them on their back with glue sticks in their eyes. Can't wait to earn a bit again and buy her a friend, sorry future house mate! These dolls are total man repellents. 

3. Snow kitties! This is Bruce, he is another of our four stray/ feral cats. He is huge, and completely lives up to the character he was named after (the hulk). It started snowing this weekend again and the kittens hate it, as they are feral they don't come in the house so my mum and sister built them little pastel blue kennels that they sleep in at night. The winter doesn't seemed to have phased them, they are huge and just keep on getting bigger. Fat cats.

DIY Kitty sleep mask

Ingredients:

Two fabrics of your choice, a pretty one for the front and a silky/ soft one that would be nice to have against your eyes.
Felt
Elastic

Equipment:
A sewing machine
Pins
A white pencil
Hand needles
Thread to match your fabric
Scissors

1.   Get out your felt and draw the mask shape out with a white pencil or tailors chalk, I already have a face mask so I used that for the template and then added the ears. When adding the ears I would make them bigger than you actually want them, as when you sew the fabric it will make them a lot smaller and less defined. Once you have a basic shape fold it in half down the centre to ensure that the mask is symmetrical. And cut around the shape. This felt pattern is the size of the final mask so make sure you are happy with the sizing.

2.       Cut your two fabrics about 2cm bigger than your felt mask to allow for the stitching

3.       I quilted the front of my eye mask but that is optional. When doing this the spotty fabric was really handy as the lines between the dots made it easy to make sure I was sewing in a straight line. If you are not quilting then I would lightly tack around the outside of the felt to keep it in place. 

4.       Measure the elastic around your own head, cut to size and pin to the front of your mask. Sew the ends to the mask, either by hand or with machine. Making sure it is in the 2cm allowance of fabric.

5.       Pin the backing fabric to your mask so it faces the front of your mask, this is so you can sew the mask neatly and hide the stitching within the mask. Make sure your elastic is tucked well inside the mask so it is not sewed into the outside of the mask. 

6.     Sew around the outside of the mask leaving a good inch at one side, I left a space where the elastic was on one side.

7.       Turn the mask out and poke the ears out with the pencil. Hand sew the side you left open so you could turn out the mask and you are finished!

And you get to go to bed feeling like Batman/ Catwoman . There is absolutely nothing wrong with that!

I hope you liked this tutorial! Just as a warning, this gets a bit addictive, since making this cat mask I have been thinking of other ears that would be cute on a sleep mask, like bear ears or a giraffe if you are being adventurous.

Favourite Things

So my Christmas presents are crashing my Sunday post. But I missed updating about Christmas and these were some of my favourite things of the week anyway, hope you aren't all Christmas-ed out!

1. Festive nail varnish. As gay as it is, boyfriend actually got me these. They are festive colours! Bless him. I have such a stash of Essie nail varnishes that when I was out he had to double check what I already had. But he chose wisely. I love these colours, the green is something I wouldn't have picked myself but I love it anyway, and my old dark red has gone all lumpy and gross so it was a well timed purchased, good going boyfriend!

2. Raw Amethyst ring. Bought for me by my sister, from Etsy I am assuming. It is beautiful and also doubles up as an effective weapon. The crystal is pretty darn stabby, going to be helpful on the rough streets of Glasgow... Honestly though, I will not stab anyone with my ring. It might break.

3. Kitty mittens.They even have a string, this is very helpful so I don't lose them because I always lose one glove or one sock. It's my talent. However, these babies do have a drawback. I threaded them through the sleeves of my coat, because that is what I thought I should do, but if you do this and drive you do end up in a horrible tangled mess, not really ideal. So there we go, don't drink and drive, no drugs and driving and no certainly mittens with a string and pom poms. It is just distracting!
