Favourite Things: Birthday Edit

So it was my birthday at the start of April, hence the lack of posting, but I thought I'd show some of my lovely gifts even if it is a week late. This birthday I did very well on the jewellery front,  and etsy made a killing out of my friends and family. Boyfriend bought me rose gold hoops and the pretty crystal necklace, my sister bought me the dainty silver necklace with my initial on it and some reindeer antler studs that aren't pictured. One of my girls made me the stunning pearl necklace which amazing and my bestie got me a lovely ring by Ottoman Hands which is pictured in more detail below.

My sister also got me this beautiful watercolour/ marbled scarf from Anthropologie. The weather needs to get less chilly before I can wear this though.

Last, but not least, I put my birthday money and some of my own into investing in a new camera. After much consideration I picked the Nikon D7000. I am very much a Nikon kind of girl, I was told that often Canons are not quite as sturdily made, the screws that hold it together screw into plastic, and with the Nikon it is into metal so they are easier to take apart and fix if they break. I am absolutely no camera expert though. Anyway, I was also given this beautiful leather strap for it too. I can't wait to full road test my new baby.

Again, sorry for my absence last week, I have many outfit posts coming your way though so keep your eyes peeled, if I have time, revision is in full swing.

Favourite Things

1. Chocolate mice in a glass bowl from Zara home. They are probably going off quicker than if I left them in their packet but they look much prettier now. I loved chocolate mice as a kid. At after school club we had a tuck shop and because I didn't and don't like jelly sweets the little 2p mice is what I spent all my money on. Sickly sweet and set your teeth on edge but hey, I am taking one for my four year old self.

I got these super cute hair ties for my Christmas and I have been wearing them a lot this week. They are great because they don't pull on your hair or break at the join. Also, they are glittery, no hair band I have had before was glittery. Fun! Find them on Anthropologie here click to see a set of 5 and here for a set of 10.
Another place to look is on Etsy where they seemlingly come in any colour you could dream of and they are a better price. You can also pick your own colours so you aren't stuck with a poopy-brown that no-one else wanted, see here for set of 3.

 3. This is my life at the moment. My dissertation is due on the 14th of February, Happy Valentines to me and I am crapping myself. I love to research but when it comes down to sitting down and writing anything my mind crashes. I have been all over Scotland and England visiting archives trying to get primary sources, I have let some lovely librarians and some mean ones and the phrase "Having fun isn't hard when you have a library card" is starting to wear awfully thin. This also acts as a bit of a forewarning, posting may slow down noticeably as all I am wearing at the moment is a mixture of underwear and boys clothes neither of which are appropriate for the internet. Or I may have been squished to death by my piles of books I still have to read. Anyone got any tips for coping with the stress of handing in a big project that in all honestly, you started maybe a bit too late?

Happy Sunday lovelies!

My Favourite Things

 1. Winter days wasted away in bed in cozy knitted socks. A simple pleasure, but I love giant knitted socks, preferably knee high. They are cozy, wintery and cute. These are from Free People and are huge! They also aren't itchy which is a major plus for me! These socks also make for good welly socks, keeping your toes warm!

 2. Weekend sewing. So, made this super ugly hat today. I will have a DIY tutorial up soon hopefully. Even my sister likes this hat, which is a big complement so I am pretty excited. She is my biggest critic.

3. My favourite thing of the week? My Christmas tree.  He is quite a beauty, and he makes the house smell lovely. I love putting up the Christmas decorations (hate taking them down though), I am so controlling when it comes to decorating the tree so I am mostly left to do it by myself. People just do it wrong! I also thought I would extend this by going through my three favourite Christmas decorations of the year.

Gingerbread-men bauble from Liberty's of London. I bought this for my mum, I buy her a new Christmas decoration each year and fell in love with this glittered creation. I added a bow from Liberty ribbon at the top too. If I was up to me every Christmas decoration would have a bow at the top, bit naff and over the top but I don't care!!

Monsieur Pig. He was hand made from a craft fair. Isn't he a cutie?! We bought this for my dad, don't think too much into it. He just likes pigs.

Mr Narwhal, was from Anthropologie, my sister got him last year and he is so sweet, if not a bit weighty so you need a sturdy branch for him to feature on. Kinda loving this walrus from this years selection!

Has everyone got their Christmas tree up yet? Where have you seen the best decorations this year?
